Saraswati Puja

TUESDAY, May 3 -- 8PM
Prayer Space, Canaday B Basement
Hosted by freshmen Namrata Anand and Arjun Mody
Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, music, and the arts and considered the "mother of the Vedas." She is also considered the guardian deity in Buddhism who is
charged with upholding the teachings of the Buddha by offering
protection and guidance to its practitioners. Therefore, it's only fitting that we honor her as our finals approach.
In many regions of India,
people place their books near Saraswati's statue or picture during the
day of worship and are not allowed to read books the entire day.
Children, of course, love this tradition because they aren't required to study for the day!
INTERESTING FACT:
When
your feet accidentally touch a book or other written material, have you
made a gesture by touching the written material with your right hand
and then touching your heart or forehead? In many parts of India, this
is done as an apology because any form of knowledge is considered a
manifestation of Saraswati!
We hope to see you at the puja!
